I’ve spent a few sessions working on the girl in a hooded cape…My initial vision was much darker, much more mysterious then our Queen of Green…somehow I imagined her with a sword in a decimated environment with fallen pillars and piles of rubble…
With St. Patrick’s coming up, I wanted to do a themed piece. That’s when I decided to adapt this piece. Surprisingly, I really like how it turned out! I think I put too much pressure on myself coming up with the perfect backdrop to capture the intended mood. So when the decision was made to go in a completely different direction, it somehow felt freeing…Funny, how that happens sometimes.
Am I overthinking this? Yes. Am I the only one thinking like this? Maybe? You tell me!
As per the drawing process itself…I love using the ‘Coarse Bristles’ Brush. The thing is…it doesn’t translate as well in a 2D format. I am determined to learn to work with it! It looks so much more realistic, almost like real brush strokes compared to some of the other Tilt Brush tools. It’s harder to do precise work with it but that imperfection is partly what makes it look more real.
I added some strokes of the animated brush to the girl’s cape to create a bit of movement, like it’s moving in the wind. I always felt that she should be holding something, the way her arms were positioned. With the tribute to St. Patrick’s day, it felt natural for it to be a four leaf clover but I like to think about it in a bit more symbolic way – she is meeting the moment and taking control of her own luck!
And I wish that for you too, my friends…I hope you’re able to recognize your four leaf clover rather then missing it in a sea of distracting weeds.
