Wow. Importing pictures to use for reference is a game changer…
I had a blast recreating a picture I found online. It took a little bit to figure out which brush I want to use ultimately landing on the Matte Hull. You can sort of sculpt with this brush so that worked really well for this painting.
I talked about this in the previous post but here we are again – painting a fairly 2 dimensional picture in the 3D space. Ironically, the colours and shades are creating the 3D effect rather then the piece itself…but that’s ok. It’s fun to experiment and then expand beyond that.
I loved that the decision making was, for the most part, eliminated and I could concentrate on the proportions and learning how the different colours contribute to the various shading of the piece. Back when I would draw more regularly all of this came much more naturally. Nowadays, it feels like a slow warm up but I’m ok with that. As with anything, it truly is about practice…
This piece took about 3 hours and I had to do it in two sittings (or should I say ‘standings’?) and although it’s not an original, I am pretty happy with this one!
