After spending so much time in Beat Saber, the songs started to be a bit repetitive so I knew it was time to expend the library again. I decided to purchase the ‘Linkin Park Music Pack’.
1) What is the ‘Linkin Park Music Pack’ about?
- The new extensive music pack was released in August 2020 and will surely satisfy any Linkin Park fan with its 11 songs and 55 total beat maps. All of the tracks come in the easy, hard, expert, expert+ categories and you can add modifiers according to your preference
- Price for the whole album is USD 13.99 or USD 1.99 per song
- Available on Oculus Quest and the Rift Platform
- A fun little twist with this Linkin Park music pack is the new play environment. You find yourself in a dark old tunnel with muted red and grey boxes which really reinforce the underlying mood and truly adds to the experience
2) What songs are included with the Linkin Park Music Pack?
11 songs, 55 beat maps – you are sure to find something to groove to, yell at top of your lungs or release some anger at some innocent moving boxes…
• Bleed It Out
• Breaking the Habit
• Faint
• Given Up
• In The End
• New Divide
• Numb
• One Step Closer
• Papercut
• Somewhere I Belong
• What I’ve Done
3) What was my experience?
My initial reaction was a bit mixed. I really liked the new environment – it’s different, it adds to the atmosphere, reinforces the darkness and intensity of the lyrics…but I also found that it started to feel a bit depressing after a while. After going through all the songs, it started to feel almost claustrophobic.
After the first run-through, I realized that there are some songs that are pretty ‘screamy’ but that won’t surprise any true Linkin Park fan. I also found that because each song is fairly long compared to the songs that come with the game, I am sometimes only able to run through a few tracks before I get tired. But I think it was mostly the higher price tag (purchased for about CAD $20, while the Beat Saber game itself is CAD $35) that made me question if it was worth buying. Was it one of those albums that are fun to play once but that’s about it?
I am happy to report that after owning the album for a while I am really enjoying it! I come back to it almost every time I play! Yes, you kind of need to be in the mood for it but that usually doesn’t take long, even if you initially don’t feel like starting with it. There is something cathartic about blasting Linkin Park, singing your heart out and projecting the music’s energy and anger into splitting boxes…am I right?!
